I cannot describe how thankful I am that this gem has been given a wide release in Australia before most countries, which is a rare occurrence, especially with foreign films.
The first time I saw this, I was absolutely enthralled by it because of the unique story being presented. I found it to be witty yet subversive, and I had no idea where it was headed. Bong-Joon Ho is a director who"s work that I"ve seen at this point is something I greatly appreciate. He always manages to pull genuinely funny comedy out of his scenes that somehow feels natural rather than jarring. It doesn"t diminish from the story"s overall seriousness, nor does it ditract from the dramatic performances of the cast, especially Song Kang-Ho, who I have not seen give a performance that was not great yet.
Where the story did head completely caught me off guard, but in a good way. It is one of the best uses of plot escalation I have seen in a long time, to the point where the film completely changes genres halfway through and it"s astounding because it works so well. The stylistic features change with the tone shift as well, as the score becomes more tense and dramatic, and the camera movement becomes more sweeping and eratic. It"s all so perfectly complementary to what"s escalating on screen. The cinematography is so good that any shot could be used as the poster, and it would make good one at that.
The second time I saw this I payed extra attention to any hints or details that are presented which set up the escalation to come, and it was a truly rewarding experience. I think there"s still things I won"t pick up until my third or fourth viewing.
I absolutely adore this film, and I think everyone should check it out. I would even recommend it to those who confess to not liking foreign films because they have to go through the gruelling task of actually having to read what they"re watching.
This is my favourite of 2019 so far, and I would be very surprised if that changed from now.

I"ve tried to keep my review to a minimum because the less said about this movie the better, everyone needs to see this movie.

The Pizza Delivery girl who they once worked for is now serving them pizza. Its not about the poor vs the rich its about the poor vs the poor. Why did the bus have to pass by at that precise moment, they didnt really elaborate. ??. For all the idiot complaining about subtitles I got a secret for you, other countries have been watching our movies with subtitles for years. When they speak of the bus scene (when the bus passes in the background during the discussion) it is actually a point that stood out to me in the film as sooo perfect.

It was a wonderful movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Okay I"m American and I must say not all of us want an American adaptation of this! 2:57 to 3:00 I love her acting when she says Tuberculosis? Come on. Her facial expressions are so on point. She goes from surprise, to laughter, to seriousness in seconds. It"s the nuances that makes the movie so great. 10/10. Parasite cast. Its interesting to see the guy who play the son speaking English I mean I know he grew up in Canada or something, but its the fact his voice sounds young in English.

I didn"t get that impression from watching the film as it included plot arcs that I have seen in other films. The ending is pretty hard hitting though and one that I won"t dare spoil. Please seek this one out if you can, it is very much worth your time.

I"m Korean and one of the details most foreigners(and even Koreans) miss to mention is that those families were never like that poor/rich all the way through their life! The rich family"s dad is introduced in several details as he started from the bottom - and became an icon for it(The term Ja-Su-Seong-Ga is mentioned repeatedly+His company is an IT/Tech sort of company which makes it more believable. In the poor family"s house, you can see several items/details where they were far more wealthier before(not super rich, but just better off in general) just that the poor family"s father had a failed business that lead this family into this poverty. Thoses family members aren"t incompetant at all. Dad has several great skillsets, mom was a national level athlete, sister is good at art, and the son is educated enough to teach the rich sub-poor couple"s husband even owned his own small business back in the day. You act like you were born with the class, in reality, you"re just stationed into a system. Capital hierarchy blinds you into believing the wealthy deserves of their own class while the poor believes the same, respectiong and admiring the upperclass. loads of casualty without any villans.
